The Art of Israel

The sabra, pricklypear cactus, OPUNTIA FICUSINDICA

This interactive presentation highlights art created in the Holy Land from the biblical world to the contemporary era. The works reflect the experiences of the people who lived in that part of the world at a specific time. The creation and development of the visual arts during the 20th century is emphasized. Israeli art adopted the materials and styles of the dominant culture until the early 20th century when Zionists seeking a homeland attempted to create a "National Jewish Art Style." How did they do that? What happened? Were they successful? Where are their undertakings today? And what has happened in the interim?

What can we, living in the 21st century, learn from these people? How can we benefit from their efforts?

This presentation is especially suitable for Israel Independence Day and for all ages.
