Jewish-American Artists & World War II

This interactive slide presentation provides an overview of the works of Jewish-American painters, sculptors, printmakers, and photographers as they reacted to the events of World War II. This session highlights the works of artists who were born in America, emigrated, or found refuge here. Whether they worked in a documentary or a symbolic fashion, focused inward or raged with fierce dissatisfaction, these artists were certainly not complacent about the events of their day.

From "The Degenerate Art Show" of 1937 to contemporary times, artworks included are by:

Leonard BaskinJonathan BorofskyMarc Chagall
Judy ChicagoPhilip EvergoodAudrey Flack
Leon GolubJack LevineSol LeWitt
Jacques LipchitzSeymour LiptonBarnett Newman
